Overview
The Strategic Risk Register (SRR)
The Strategic Risk Register (SRR) is a curated index of over 100 key risks that our analysts in the Global Intelligence Team (GIT) monitor around the clock in order to assess their potential impacts on organisations, individuals and business operations. Each risk is uniquely identified, categorised and assessed for its relative impact on a country or territory. The impact score is scaled from 1 (Low Impact) to 3 (High Impact).

SRR Interactive Globe
The SRR Interactive Globe is a 3D interactive tool that maps our tracked strategic risks around the world.
Countries are coloured with a gradient based on the cumulative impact score for the relevant risks, which provides an understanding of the relative geopolitical risk exposure. Each country has a respective country node, which, when selected, allows the user to read the relevant strategic risks.
How to Use the SRR Interactive Globe?
The globe includes two key filter tools:
- Desk Filter: Use this filter to explore various risks according to our four geographic desks: Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe-Eurasia and Middle East and Africa. Selecting a Desk option will pivot your view, showing a filtered globe displaying only that region, as well as the relevant risks. This allows you to compare the relative cumulative impacts of our strategic risks within a geographic region.
ASTRA Category Filter: Use this filter to explore countries affected by risks within a specific ASTRA risk category: Criminal, Governance, Hazards, Health, Political and Security. Selecting an ASTRA Risk Category option will pivot your view, showing a filtered globe displaying only those countries affected by related risk categories.
Interacting with the Globe?
- Click on a country node to view a pop-up listing the risks impacting that country. Please note, if you have applied a category filter, the country pop-up will only display risks for that country.
- Countries are shaded using a gradient based on the cumulative impact score (from low to high).
- Select the home icon in the top left corner at any time to return to the default globe view.

Visualisations
SRR Interactive Network
The SRR Interactive Network is a 3D node-link visualisation that reveals how our strategic risks interconnect with one another.
Each node represents a unique risk from the SRR that is coloured by its risk category and sized by its cumulative impacts across all affected countries.
The SRR Interactive Network allows users to understand which strategic risks entail the greatest cumulative country impacts, as well as to explore the chain effects and dependencies between the various risks.
How to Use the SRR Interactive Network?
The network includes two key views:
Home: This page displays the entire SRR Interactive Network visualisation. Clicking on a risk node highlights this node and prompts a pop-up text box. The text box provides the risk title, the ASTRA risk category and a description of the risk. Beneath this are two toggle button options: Directly Impacted Countries and Connected Risks. The Directly Impacted Countries button provides information on the countries wherein this risk is present, grouped according to Low Impact (1), Medium Impact (2) or High Impact (3). The Connected Risks button provides information on the list of risks (such as their descriptions) that are connected to the selected risk node. These connected risks are grouped into Directly Affected Risks (risks that are affected by the selected risk node), Input Risks (risks that affect the selected risk node) and Knock-on Affected Risks (risks that are affected by the selected risks).
Filter by Risk: This page displays a filtered version of the SRR Interactive Network. The left-hand side of the page allows the user to view and select a strategic risk with which they can filter the network in the dropdown list. Users may also use the search function above to filter the list of risk titles. Selecting a risk will filter the visual to display only this key risk node, highlighted on the screen, as well as the directly affected risks. Selecting the Toggle Expanded View button beneath adjusts the filtered visualisation, enabling it to display only the Directly Affected Risks, or include the Knock-on Affected Risks and Input Risks affecting the key risk node. The diagram visualises this connection through the colour of the link connecting each node. As before, the user may select any node to receive information concerning the risk title, the ASTRA risk category and the description of the risk; they may also use the Directly Impacted Countries and Connected Risks toggle buttons. To return to the home page, select the home icon in the top left corner.
