Report

January 8, 2026

The operation to seize President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela on 3 January was followed by the seizure of a Russian-flagged vessel in the North Atlantic earlier on 7 January, as well as intensified posturing around the potential US annexation of Greenland. These developments also come amid threats by the US to bomb Iran, which is currently gripped by growing anti-government unrest.
