Russia-US-UK: US seizure of Russian-flagged vessel is unlikely to trigger kinetic response

In the past week, US foreign policy has left an extraordinary mark on geopolitics.

The operation to seize President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela on 3 January was followed by the seizure of a Russian-flagged vessel in the North Atlantic earlier on 7 January, as well as intensified posturing around the potential US annexation of Greenland. These developments also come amid threats by the US to bomb Iran, which is currently gripped by growing anti-government unrest.
