Michael joined Sibylline in January 2020 in Washington DC (US) and is a team manager embedded with one of our technology clients. Michael and his team track and assess trends from extremist, terrorist and organised criminal organisations to understand the risks they pose to the technology industry. Michael is driven by his passion for dissecting the complex security issues that companies face around the world and providing insightful, actionable intelligence to help our clients protect their assets, people and reputation.

Having worked in the intelligence field for the past 15 years, Michael began his career focused on the reputational and security risks companies face in emerging and frontier markets. As the Europe and Eurasia Lead Analyst, Michael provided due diligence and consulting services to clients investing in Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. Michael later moved to the US, where he managed due diligence investigations for several Fortune 500 companies before joining Sibylline.

Throughout Michael’s career, he has published work in both academic and commercial settings, assessing risks related to elite networks and power dynamics in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, organised crime and terrorism. Michael served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kazakhstan from 2007 to 2009.

Michael has a bachelor’s degree in History from Arizona State University (US) and a master’s degree in Middle East and Central Asian Security Studies from the University of St Andrews (UK).
