During the early hours of 3 January, the US conducted a military operation in Venezuela that involved launching a series of airstrikes on strategic government targets, including in the capital Caracas. US President Donald Trump later announced that special operations forces had captured Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, before removing them from the country. Maduro now faces a series of drug-related charges in New York. Maduro’s removal raises questions about the future of governance in Venezuela.
